Spatial Cognition, Toys, EdTech and Playful Learning - Scott Traylor

Kids Product Leader and Strategic Consultant

Scott is an inspiring Product Leader in the Toys and EdTech industries with a wealth of experience and knowledge.

In 1996, Scott founded 360Kid, providing interactive product development services to companies like Sesame Workshop, Pokémon and Hasbro. His work earned two Toy of the Year nominations, three Emmy nominations, and one Emmy win!

After 20 years running 360Kid, Scott led innovative product teams at Encantos and Wonder Workshop - home of the beloved Dash and Dot robots - focusing on teaching kids 21st-century skills and computational thinking through digital and physical play-based learning.

Now, Scott is a strategic consultant, advisor and mentor to multiple EdTech and KidTech companies. I’ve first known him as the - now former - President of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Children’s Media Association, a fantastic community I am grateful to be a part of.

As a true lifelong learner, Scott recently chose to join the Learning Design, Innovation, and Technology Master’s program at the Harvard School of Education, where he focuses on spatial cognition and learning.

In this episode, Scott explains the importance of spatial cognition to predict success in STEM fields along with insightful stories and research on the topic. He also shares his thoughts on the evolution of the toys and EdTech landscape over the past decade, including an interesting concept he calls Moore’s echo, as a reference to Moore’s law.
